Organizational values such as standardization in terms of procedures, recruitment and communications or cooperation among individuals, departments and branches. Psychological values such as innovation into new, breakthrough areas or service to society: community welfare, environmental protection. All it takes is to plant a seed. Nurture IT. Information technology can be a critical enabler to what Forrester calls the "green enterprise" — an organization that actively reduces the environmental impact across its value chain activities to mitigate risk, reduce costs, and increase revenues to ultimately deliver shareholder value. A number of leading organizations are paving the way. For example, Nike's "Considered Index" desktop application empowers designers to make more eco-friendly decisions when designing shoes, and UPS's "package flow" software that eliminated left-hand turns from delivery routes saved $8.4 million in fuel costs and 32,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions in 2007. To determine IT's role in the green enterprise, Forrester recommends that IT leadership get up to speed on what the green enterprise is and what its motivations are. From there, IT leadership can proactively approach the business with an action plan on how IT can be used to enable the green enterprise. More and more Belgian companies are involved with ecology. They manufacture, market and sell ecological products and services. They often rely on SAP’s NetWeaver technology field to support their fast growth. "SAP goes green" will feature two green enterprises: Ecover and Enfinity. Ecover stands for careful enterprise. This means that they produce washing and cleaning products in an ecological, economic and socially responsible way in a unique ecological factory. Honest and open, they respect people and the environment. In their view, this is the only way to guarantee a sustainable future. Nothing is endless, but as an energy source for the earth the sun will certainly be around for another couple of billion years. The heat and the light that the sun provides for free can be used by everybody whilst respecting a sustainable environment. Enfinity develops, finances, realizes and manages solar and wind energy projects. Governmental organizations are actively involved with policies encouraging green behavior of citizens and enterprises. Think at the so-called "groene stroomcertificaten" of the Flemish Government. Oasis welcomes employees, customers, suppliers, shareholders, business partners and other stakeholders of the green enterprise. Ann Franssens CEO OASIS Consultants
